How Much Money Do You Need to Start a Gold Trading Bot?

One of the most common questions we get: how much money do I need to run a gold trading bot? The good news — you can start with as little as $100. The honest news — small accounts make small amounts, because returns are a percentage of your balance, not a fixed dollar figure.

The minimum: about $100

A well-built gold EA sizes its lots from your balance, so it works on small accounts. At $100–$500 it trades micro lots (roughly 0.01–0.03). It will not blow up a small account any faster than a large one — the risk per trade is a percentage, so it scales down with you.

Returns are a percentage — here is what that means

  • $100 account → same % return as a $10,000 account, just smaller dollar amounts
  • $1,000 → a realistic safe strategy targets roughly 1–2% per month on average (some months more, some flat)
  • $5,000 → the same percentages, five times the dollars
  • $10,000 → same again — bigger balance simply means bigger absolute profit at the same risk

If you want a bigger dollar-per-day number, you need a bigger account — not more risk. Cranking risk to chase dollars on a small account is exactly how accounts get wiped.

How lot sizing works

With auto lot sizing on a ~1% risk profile, the bot reads your balance and picks a lot size so each trade risks about 1% at its stop loss. As your balance grows, lots grow; if you drawdown, lots shrink. This is what keeps a losing streak from ending your account.

How much should you risk?

  • 1% per trade (standard) — safe, low drawdown, slower growth
  • 1.5–2% — higher returns, but drawdowns roughly double; only for money you can afford to lose
  • Never disable the daily loss limit to chase profit — that is the setting that saves you on a bad day

Our honest recommendation

Start on a demo account, then go live with an amount you are completely comfortable losing — even $100–$300 is fine to learn. Keep risk at the standard profile. Judge the bot over months, not days. A small account run safely teaches you everything you need before you scale up.
